The nineties called…

May 16, 2012

Do you think they want their Versace look back? (ba da bum chhhhh)

My lust for all most things early nineties grows stronger with every gaudy scarf print I see. This Zara blazer practically called my name. I even bought the matching pants (see).

In recent years, my short-term memory has gone to shit. I kid you not. I can’t tell you how many times a day I question whether, or not I turned off my curling iron, or how many doctor’s appointments I’ve had to reschedule because I forgot to make a note. However, my trivial knowledge, and ability to recall childhood likings is quite keen. I probably don’t want to delve too deeply into the psychological reasoning behind this truth; it is what it is. That being said, this jacket immediately reminded me of old Versace ads… the ones that I used to tear out of fashion rags, and make collages (“inspiration boards”) with. Oh man, were they haute (and hot)! Big hair, excessive accessorizing, absurdly bright colors, and SUPER MODELS!

Speaking of “super” models, does anyone else miss them as much as I do? Linda, Claudia, Christy, Naomi, Cindy, Tatjana, Helena, et al. I adored (and idolized) all of them! In fact, I think I’ll go ahead and link you to George Michael’s “Freedom! ‘90” video in case you are feeling as nostalgic as I am.

Blazer: Zara, Top: J.Crew, Pants: Trina Turk (old), Belts: J.Crew & vintage, Earrings: vintage YSL, Cuffs: one-of-a-kind & MiMi by Sorrelli, Clutch: AA, Shoes: Manolo Blahnik, Sunglasses: Prada, Lipstick: MAC’s “Ruby Woo

So, here I am, channeling the nineties (or at least my mother in the nineties)… full throttle. Scarf printed blazer, polka dotted tee, gold chains, gold cuffs, ginormous gold clip-ons, stilettos, and a poufy French twist. Bam! I think I nailed it. ;-)

  1. I love how you can pull off two cuffs, plus two belts, plus statement earrings… I’m always timid about wearing toooo many accessories, any tips to know when to add more and when to stop??
